The Acts of John contains two of the most extraordinary scenes in all non-canonical Christian literature. In the first, on the night before the crucifixion, Jesus gathers his disciples and leads them in a circle dance while singing a hymn — the Hymn of the Dance — in which the disciples respond to each line with “Amen.” In the second, John sees that Jesus does not cast a shadow, that his footprint
